Preview : Le Pub : Oxford Collapse : April 10 : Newport

Hurrah for joke MySpace genres! Oxford Collapse are, according to their own page, "Nu-Jazz" and "German Pop". In less it's very well disguised code German, I think its in English, and thankfully its not improvised.

The 'Collapse's last long player, 2006's Remember the Night Parties, won plaudits for its slice of shouty noisy clever-clever indie pop. Rather than angry, they're joyfully playful, finding all manner of instruments to bash alongside their dance-punk rhythms and tape deck hums. Anyone whose a fan of clangy bands like Clap Your Hands..., Wolf Parade or even Les Savy Fav should find them up their street. The band has survived its move up from the margins to Sub Pop and is embarking on its three week long UK tour starting in little old Newport....

This is, of course, all thanks to Gathered in Song, who are again bringing quality American indie to Le Pub. Starting up for Oxford Collapse are Cardiff art-pop team Heck who boss about with beg-me-for-your-ears female vocals and urgent, angry pissed off riffs. And supporting them are moody "drum machine" band Pilot Field - remember The For Carnation? I do, they were fucking awesome. They're a bit like them.

Amazingly, this is just two pounds on the doors.
