THE WORLD

THURSDAY 26 OCTOBER

THE JOY COLLECTIVE & LESSON NO.1 PRESENT:

THE WORLD

First time in the UK for this band out of Oakland, California who tipped up last year with an EP called ‘Managerial Material’ (on the UPSET THE RHYTHM label) that got people positively jitterbugging with its sharp-clawed burrow into the good and the great of postpunk, dub and 2-tone. It features two (2) sax players and shuffly woodblock rhythm guitar and vocals that are equal parts joyous and righteous. For fans of: THE SLITS, YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS, BUSH TETRAS, SACRED PAWS, THE SPECIALS. Listen to the EP here: https://takestworecords.bandcamp.com/album/managerial-material-7

BELLIES

First time in Cardiff for… a couple of years, I think, for this blazin’ guitar’n’drums duo from Bristol who feature one member of THE JELAS and one member of DRUNK GRANNY. They combine awesomely puzzling stop-start arrangements, dual vocals and the best onstage patter in the damn music business. For fans of: DEERHOOF, THE EX, DELTA 5. Listen to them here: https://bellies.bandcamp.com/

PERFECT BODY

Second gig ever, unless I missed a house show or similar, for a Cardiff band who formed at the start of the year and laid down some wintry gothic shoegaze jams. Based on the set they played in July, in support to Artefact, and the song they slung online the other day, I can confirm they’re awfy good at it! Whistling feedback and chiming guitar parts and choirgirl vocals and that kind of good stuff. Hear ‘Getting Cold’ here: https://soundcloud.com/perfectbodyofsound/getting-cold
