NEXT JOY GIG. You have to, you know, attend.
THE RUSTY TROMBONE OF GOD & THE JOY COLLECTIVE PRESENT…
PRIMORDIAL UNDERMIND
Mining the deepest regions of avant-rock for years, PU leader Eric Arn began in the legendary Crystalized Movements (which spawned Magic Hour + Major Stars). Primordial Undermind: from distorted, psychedelic overload to full-blown free/drone rock, like a heady collision of Amon Duul II with Texas-style garage-psych a la ST37.
THOUGHT FORMS
From England’s rural Southwest, brought together amongst the ley-lines by a love of guitar abuse and pedal worship… blending layers of melody within walls of noise, they create a psychedelic and intense atmosphere inspired by Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, and shamanic improvisation.
NAZKA
These blobs are more a name belonging to the Chilean armed attack Millions of the party in 2011. Nazca leave but travel through space, powered by pure psychedelia, it is achieved by inheritance Guitarist Jerry Garcia or a synthesizer in constant rotation, always accompanied by the repetitive rhythm of drums, but cooler than Stevie Wonder. BLURB:
Primordial Undermind‘s newest LP ‘Last Worldly Bond’ was released on Strange Attractors Audio House in January, to rave reviews. Primordial Undermind: Mining the deepest regions of avant-rock for years, PU leader Eric Arn began in the legendary Crystalized Movements (which spawned Magic Hour + Major Stars). Primordial Undermind: from distorted, psychedelic overload to full-blown free/drone rock, like a heady collision of Amon Duul II with Texas-style garage-psych a la ST37. After relocating from Austin,TX to Vienna, Austria, the band released the acclaimed ‘Loss of Affect’ on Strange Attractors in 2006. They have 5 previous albums on Emperor Jones, Camera Obscura, and September Gurls.
“Reverberating with primitive hallucinogenic drones, garage rock grinds, and improvisations that slowly build from half-formed blowouts to cosmic Stockhausen-style epics… PU have crawled out of the psychedelic undergrowth and evolved into something special” – Edwin Pouncey, The Wire
“underworldy free-rock music… a kind of direct descendant of the big late ‘60s electronics-powered post-psychedelic ensembles… but much, much better” – Julian Cope, Headheritage
Thought Forms: from England’s rural Southwest, brought together amongst the ley-lines by a love of guitar abuse and pedal worship… blending layers of melody within walls of noise, they create a psychedelic and intense atmosphere inspired by Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, and shamanic improvisation. Picked up by Invada Records (by Geoff Barrow of Portishead), released their first album for the label in 2009 to widespread critical acclaim. Having taken their sound out to the USA and Europe, they’ve played well-received sets at ATP, Supersonic and Terrastock as well as touring with Barrow’s new band Beak. Thought Forms are working on their second album for Invada, with Randall Dunn (Sunn O))) / Earth / Kinski) and it’s set for release later in 2011; prior to that, there is a split LP with Master Musicians of Bukkake in the pipeline!
“feedback soaked diz-busting that recalls Major Stars shows of yore” – Byron Coley, the Wire
“a noise ridden joy… beautiful crumbling chord progressions and screeching feedback loops from a series of abused guitars… waves of heavy drones and sheets of rippling noise, anchored with ecstatic drumming” – Music Ohm
